Mastering Fall’s Trends to Create your Sensational Look
Fashion magazines have so far given some hints to what’s popular for fall. But with the summer climate still retaining; it feels as though to obtain the fall trends will propone until fall commences. However, if you wait to buy your fall purchases when it finally “feels” like fall, the best items-and the good deals-will be gone. The key to enhancing your closet isn’t to buy an entire new wardrobe; it’s adding certain pieces to the clothes that you already own.
The Fall 2007 collection consists primarily of a 1920s retro look. Designers such as Fendi, Christian Dior, Dolce & Gabbana and others steal looks from the decade of glamour and twist them with flair of their own. Colors that are hot in the runway that can flatter any outfit would be neon colors, metallic colors, red, black, purple, and navy. Leopard prints, zebra prints, fur, and feathers can automatically set you in front of line of the latest fashion trend. It is recommended to layer up your apparel to create a sensational outfit. Simply twist a sophisticated look with that of a modern, sexy look and you’ll be on top of fashion.
To facilitate what should be in your wardrobe in order to be up-to-date with fashion are the following tips:
Ten Key Pieces for fall: (Women)
1) The cape, from midthigh to knee length. It’s one piece that will update everything by adding a triangular silhouette in a wearable way.
2) An evening tank, dress, or knit with bronze or matte silver sequins.
3) A slim or pencil skirt.
4) Your widest belt yet. Double buckled or even triple buckled. It’s the new extreme belt, and it’s ultra flattering. Go for a dark color and brass hardware.
5) A large patent bag. Navy is where the chic money is.
6) Trousers. One tailored slim pair, one slouchy with a high rise. They’re back in the spotlight for the first time in years, so invest in great cuts.
7) A tunic. Wear it over a turtleneck and with hose-if you have the legs-or trousers.
8) A knitted, textured jacket.
9) A turtleneck or three.
10) A hat. A fedora is used in every runway.
Six Key Pieces for fall: (Men)
1) A cardigan. It can be worn over your favorite tee with a pair of jeans. It’s one of the most versatile items you can have in your wardrobe.
2) Pinstriped Pants. For a modern look, try matching them with a fun striped shirt and/or an argyle sweater.
3) Striped Shirts can be worn independently with jeans, with a suit or under a sweater. Remember, fall is about layering and from bold and thick stripes to thin ones; it’s a good look that you will find easy to incorporate into many ensembles.
4) Blazer/Sports Jacket. A cool blazer is definitely a must-have item, and the styles available really give blazers a life of their own.
5) Flat-Front Twill Pants. Go for straight-legged version and whose fabric features a textured look.
6) Skinny and Tampered Jeans. Go for dark-wash jeans that enhance your best features.
Fall is all about revealing your fashion sense so dress to impress!

Ch. 3 Questions

Journalism
Chapter 3 “Deciding What Is News” On Assignment Questions pages 79-80
1. Write a brief definition of each of these terms:
ADVANCE: put forward (a theory or suggestion)
BRAINSTORMING: a spontaneous group discussion to produce ideas
CONFLICT: be incompatible or at variance with
CONSECUENCE: dated social distinction
FILTER QUESTION: when you ask a question and the response is no
HUMAN-INTEREST STORY: a news story that discusses a person or persons in an interactive and or emotional way
LOCALIZATION: restrict or assign to a particular place
NEWS JUDGEMENT: a journalist’s good sense in determining which items should be included in a story and which should be in the first paragraph or first on the newscast as well as culling items that would offend the audience’s taste.
PROMINENCE: a thing that projects or protrudes
PROXIMITY: nearness in space, time, or relationship
RANDOM SAMPLE: a number of independent observations from the same probability distribution, without involving any real population TIMELINESS: not affected by the passage of time or changes in fashion
4. Brainstorm these subjects to understand how brainstorming works:
a. What might your school be like in the year 2010? How my school would be like in the year 2010 would be a nicer environment since many remodeling is being done at the moment.
b. To how many uses can you put a jumbo-size paper clip? I can make countless uses out of a jumbo-size paper clip.
c. What are some possible school yearbook themes? A possible school yearbook theme would be making a collage of the pictures of students, faculty, and staff forming Jesus Christ resurrecting.
d. How many photo ideas can you develop to illustrate your school’s science program? I can develop many photo ideas to illustrate my school’s science program.
e. On what topics could you poll students to develop relevant newspaper articles? The topics that I could poll students to develop relevant newspaper articles would be the following: “What seniors plan to do after graduation” and “How many students have been pulled over by officials”.
5. Analyze the On Display article on page 77. In your opinion, were enough survey questions asked? What others, if any, might you have included? In my opinion, I believe that there weren’t enough survey questions asked. The journalists generalized their claim to all teens (in the world I assume) without having an accurate number of ALL the teens that smoke. Instead, they only made a poll inside their school. Therefore, they shouldn’t have made an assumption that includes ALL teens rather they should have based it on all the teens in their school. Also, not that many teens were interviewed therefore the journalists shouldn’t have made a generalized assumption if there weren’t many teens to interview in the first place. Secondly, as a reader, one doesn’t know the background of those who were interviewed. And finally, if the poll was conducted to focus on the issue involving teens, then why would they interview the Assistant Principle? What I would have done would be to find facts from reliable sources that can help prove my claim.
8. Working in teams, examine the front page of today’s local paper and identify all the news elements in it. Discuss what you have found out about the news judgment of the paper. In the front page of the Wednesday, August 15, 2007 Daily News issue, the following headlines were stated: “Neglected Valley river channel is suspected West Nile Virus”, “Traffic keeping us close to home”, “Original 1926 Van Nuys library for sale”, and “Suicide bombers hit sect; hundreds killed, injured”. I believe that the headline titled “Traffic keeping us close to home” wouldn’t be an interest to the majority of the readers because the article basically states that Angelinos prefer to stay home than to leave the house to later find themselves in heavy traffic. The article pretty much brings up the question “So What?” Honestly, this “problem” that Angelinos stay home doesn’t really concern anyone nor does it affect anyone in any way.
11. Identify one story on the Internet that you can localize for your school publication. Good places to start looking are sites such as state agencies or legislative sites. California schools stagnant on test scores: (LA TIMES) http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-tests16aug16,1,6646717.story?coll=la-headlines-california
